About Alexander Girard
(1907 - 1993) "Art is only art when it is synonymous with living." This iconic mid-century Italian-American designer is best known for his use of bold colors and modern yet folk-inspired imagery. As a furniture designer for Herman Miller in the 50s and 60s his designs won numerous design awards and he was the first modern designer to define textiles as being more than just functional and to further emphasize form through the application of color and pattern.
