Sarah Lee, founder of Sarah’s Silks, found the inspiration for her company in her oldest son’s early childhood days. “Mom, I am a turtle today. I NEED some green to wear,” he declared. Sarah reached for an old silk scarf, and her son loved the smooth, soft feel. She soon found herself dying squares of silk to support his imaginative play. Eighteen years later, Sarah’s Silks are found in homes all across the world. The play silks are non-toxic and environmentally friendly - all sewing is done in the company’s seamstresses’ homes both in China and the United States, and all the dying is done in their northern California studio.
